Discover VancouverUSA Ramble:
Adventure racers, walkers, runners, cyclists:

Here is a challenge for everyone, May 10, 2008

____________

Is it a walk, a run, or an adventure race?

It's something of each.

Discover VancouverUSA Ramble has something for everyone, whether you are an adventure racing team wanting a challenge this spring, or a parent wanting to enjoy a walk with your kids, or a runner looking for a 26+ mile training run.

The basic Ramble is a variation of orienteering, the map-and-compass sport. You’ll get a map of Vancouver marked with 100 “checkpoints.” You’ll use a compass, a GPS, or your own sense of direction to find as many checkpoints as possible within the time limit. You can go to any checkpoint, in any order, following any route you want.

Ø       You'll start at Clark College, in the heart of Vancouver's Central Park.

Ø      Visit Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. It’s Soldiers Bivouac weekend, and you’ll see historical re-enactors bringing alive all the eras of the U.S. Army at Vancouver Barracks.

Ø       Tour the downtown, and stop for a bite to eat at the Vancouver Farmer’s Market.

Ø       Stroll through Vancouver’s parks, or jog along the Burnt Bridge Creek and Marine Park trails.

You can also use this opportunity to Walk-A-Mile, Build-A-Trail to raise additional funds for the Parks and Recreation Foundation of Vancouver and Clark County.

ADVENTURE RACERS: After you've reached a minimum number of checkpoints on foot, get back to the Start/Finish area and get a new map for your bicycle leg (strictly streets and paved paths). Ride out to Vancouver Lake and swap your bikes for a canoe or kayak and challenge your navigation skills on Vancouver Lake. Finally, get back on your bike to visit as many controls as you can (that you haven't been to already) and back to the finish before time expires.
